Protest Music

In the 1980s, Gursharan Singh started a historic campaign which resulted in revolutionary poetry and singing, reverberating in every nook and corner of Punjab, building a formidable alternative to the popular anti-dalit, anti-woman decadent lyrics of the times. These have been released as a collection of 5 CDs as listed below.

Note: The quality of the music is not consistently good because these CDs were reconstructed from old recordings and the master cassettes were not always available.

ASI LARANGE SAATHI

Revolutionary Punjabi poet, Paash along with his close friend, Hans Raj, was assassinated by a group of Khalistani terrorists on March 23, 1988 in his native village Talwandi Salem, for his writings which opposed religious fundamentalism. This music, based on Paash’s poetry was recorded by Gursharan Singh and friends in 1988 as a tribute to this revolutionary poet.
